CI 77007 or Pigment Blue 29 is a mineral-derived inorganic pigment composed of sodium, aluminum, silicate and sulfate; that can range in shade from blue (most common) to violet, pink or even green. It is used to impart color to various color cosmetics as well as personal care products.

What is CI 77007 used for?

CI 77007 is a cosmetic colorant.

  • Decorative makeup: Used in eye shadow, foundation, color corrector, mascara, nail polish, eye liner, blush, facial powder, lip gloss, lip liner, brow liner, makeup primer, lip balm
  • Personal care: It is also used in moisturizer, shampoo, hand sanitizer, bath oil, body wash, toner, astringent, hair removal waxes as well

Origin

CI 77007 is produced using high temperature calcination method: clay, soda ash, sulfur, charcoal, sodium sulfate, quartz and other raw materials are mixed, and the crucible is put into the high temperature calcination, the discharge is cooled, and the unburned material is selected, after impregnation, grinding, pressure filtration, and then dried, grinded, the finished ultramarine product is obtained.

Safety Profile

CI 77007 is considered to be non-hazardous and safe for use in cosmetics. Contact with acids liberates hydrogen sulphide which is highly toxic and flammable. Acid resistant grades of ultramarine reduce this risk. It has a low hazard rating from EWG (1) with minimal concerns for irritation or sensitization. As an inorganic pigment, it has very low skin absorption. It is non-comedogenic and well-tolerated.
