What is CI 26100 used for?

As a cosmetic colorant, CI 26100 is used to impart a red color to cosmetic formulations. It is commonly used in hair treatment/serum, polish remover, nail polish, facial moisturizer/treatment, body oil, mask, hair color and bleaching, body spray, nail treatment, bar soap, serums & essences, fragrance for women, hair styling aide, recreational sunscreen, sunless tanning, tanning oil, fragrance for men.

Origin

CI 26100 is synthetically made by coupling aminoazobenzene with β-naphthol.

According to EWG, CI 26100 scored 2-6. This ingredient’s score is higher if used in products intended for damaged skin, around mouth, on lips, around the eyes due to increased risk of absorption.
