What is CI 11680 used for?

CI 11680 is used as a cosmetic colorant to impart a yellow color to the products. It is found to be used at 0.7% in rinse-off products and 0.3% in non-rinse-off products. It is oil-soluble and is suitable for use in soaps. There are various types of this pigment depending on the manufacturer. Based on the particle size of the pigment, the coloring intensity, light, and solvent resistance may differ.

CI 11680 is obtained through the diazotization of 2-nitro-p-toluidine & coupling with acetoacetanilide.

CI 11680 is not for use in products intended for mucous membranes according to the European restriction IV/4. The European Scientific Community on Cosmetology allows its use in cosmetics for the time being. It has a moderate hazard rating from EWG (typically 3-5) due to general concerns regarding synthetic azo pigments. It is generally well-tolerated but may cause sensitivity in individuals allergic to azo dyes. Approved by the EU COSING database for colorant functions. However, it is harmful by inhalation, in contact with skin and if swallowed.
