What is CENTELLA ASIATICA EXTRACT used for?
Centella Asiatica Extract is used in skin care as the following: due to its constituent, madecassoside, a known inducer of collagen expression, it is a potent anti-photoaging agent. Cosmetics containing Centella asiatica-derived ingredients may be applied to the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes, incidentally. These ingredients may be found in products that are applied as frequently as several times daily and may remain in contact with the skin or hair for varying lengths of time after use. Use on a regular basis or occasionally can last for years. It is used at concentrations up to 0.5% in leave-on products (for face).
Origin
The Centella plant's stalks and leaves are macerated in water and propylene glycol for several days to create Centella Asiatica Extract. The material is then drained, compressed, and sterilized before being filtered. Another source claims that the dried raw material (Centella Asiatica) is extracted using either ethanol or a solution of 80% propylene glycol. Following extraction, filtration, sedimentation, filtration, and packaging are performed on the propylene glycol extract. Following extraction for the ethanol extract, filtration, concentration, sedimentation, filtration, and packaging are performed.
