The production of various resins and polymers for the coating and paint industry today is using predominantly petroleum-based building blocks such as BDO. Many companies have established future goals for reducing GHG emissions (scope 3) and the use of renewable materials in developments.
Bio-renewable building blocks such as Susterra® 1,3-propanediol (BioPDO™) are fitting nicely in this future direction. BioPDO™ has the advantage that it is very versatile. In the resins and coatings industry it can be used to produce various bio-based polyesters and polyether polyols. It can be used as a chain extender and allows the production of functionalized reactive diluents.
Also, in alkyds it can be incorporated to reduce viscosities with positive side effect to increase solids, reduce voc and facilitate easier emulsification. Finally, it can also be used as bio-solvent improving open time in specific architectural coatings. This webinar will cover all the various opportunities BioPDO™ enables for the different resin and coatings systems to combine performance with reducing carbon footprint and incorporation off bio-renewable materials.
