BYK presents new wetting and dispersing additive for alkali-resistant aqueous coatings
Jul 17 2026
Formulators working on biocide- and VOC-free architectural coatings, such as dispersion silicate paints, face a narrow tolerance window for wetting and dispersing additives. These systems operate across extreme pH values that many conventional additives cannot withstand, which limits deflocculation and stabilization of inorganic pigments and fillers such as titanium dioxide and transparent iron oxides. Falling back on a lower-pH-tolerant additive in these systems typically means accepting flocculation, uneven color development, or reformulating later once the system proves unstable.
