Benathix® by Elementis is an extremely efficient, organically modified smectite clay-based rheological additive. It is developed to impart thixotropy to unsaturated polyester laminating resins and gel coats. It is a cost-effective alternative to fumed silica and other organophilic clays, is easy to disperse, allows rapid incorporation into styrene with low shear mixers.
- It imparts excellent drainage control, offers fast viscosity recovery rate after spray-out or roll-out, improves resistance to settling and syneresis, produces better glass-wetting properties.
- It provides consistent, stable viscosity and thixotropic index.
- Benathix® is easier to handle than fumed silica, allows for increased filler loadings and ensures minimal gel-time drift.
- The typical use level is 0.5-1.0% by weight in formulations.
- It has a shelf life of 4 years from the date of manufacture.
