Dimethyl ketone or 2-propanone. It is the simplest saturated ketone and an important chemical intermediate as well as industrial solvent. It is produced through the anaerobic fermentation of corn or biomass instead of traditional chemical processes from petroleum-based feedstock. As a basic chemical intermediate, acetone products include acetone cyanohydrin, bisphenol A (BPA), methyl methacrylate (MMA), 4-methyl-2-pentanone (MIBK), and vitamin C.
