Rheovis® CR2 by BASF acts as a rheological control additive for water-borne coating systems. It is designed to give a more newtonian rheology. It provides optimum flow and leveling properties for semi-gloss and high-build coatings.
- It is less susceptible to microbiological attack than derivatives of cellulose.
- It is most effective over a pH range of 7.5-10.
- It should preferably be added at the final stage of manufacturing the coating since destabilization can occur at high shear stress.
- The post-addition offers flexibility in viscosity adjustment from batch to batch.
- After addition, the pH is adjusted with alkali, ammonia, or other bases to achieve full and stable viscosity.
- The recommended dilution factor is 1 part of the additive and 5 parts of water.
- Rheovis® CR2 has a recommended usage level of 1.0-3.5% based on total formulation.
