Phenolic Monomers

Based on 56 products - Last update on the Jun 26, 2025

Phenolic monomers can polymerize to form phenolic resins, which are known for their excellent hardness, chemical resistance, and heat resistance. Key features include high crosslinking capability, good adhesion to various substrates, and exceptional durability once cured. They are highly suitable for protective coatings for industrial equipment, marine applications, and tank linings, where their robust chemical resistance and high-temperature performance are critical for long-term protection.

While epoxy and polyurethane monomers are alternatives for protective coatings, phenolic monomers offer a distinct balance of properties, especially for very harsh chemical environments. A trend in phenolic monomers is the development of low-formaldehyde or formaldehyde-free versions to meet stricter health and safety regulations. Sub-types commonly include phenol, cresols, and xylenols, which are reacted with aldehydes (most often formaldehyde) to form resoles or novolacs, leading to different resin characteristics.
