Carbon Black for Coatings and Inks

MONARCH® 120 distributed by DKSH is a low structure, specialty, general purpose carbon black. It offers very blue undertone, excellent rub resistance, good viscosity and flow properties.

• It is used as a replacement for a variety of non-carbon black pigments.
• It is recommended for a variety of inks, web offset coldset and letterpress printing inks.
• It is suitable for coatings such as underbody/underhood automotive, general industrial and architectural applications where high jetness is not required.
• MONARCH® 120 is also recommended for use as a tinting black since the large particle size allows for high loading and helps to reduce problems with floating and flooding in liquid coating applications.
• It can be easily dispersed using a single screw extruder for powder coatings.
• It is available in Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Myanmar.

Raven 410 by Birla Carbon is a carbon black with best blue undertone and lowest tinting strength for general purpose coatings. It is available both as powder and bead to ensure excellent processability in production. It possesses large particle size and low structure. It exhibits low porosity and low surface area which reduces the level of dispersant and resin demand to achieve excellent dispersion and stability. It offers low viscosity and high pigment loading in a variety of applications. It is suitable for water and solvent-borne systems. Raven 410 is used in decorative coatings, industrial coatings, powder coatings and automotive coatings.

Raven 3500 (Surface oxidized, “Treated” product) by Birla Carbon is high surface area, surface modified carbon black. It provides high level of blackness along with blue undertone and high gloss. It offers excellent wetting and dispersion properties to enhance dispersion process and reduce dispersant demand. It is available as bead and powder form to ensure excellent production process flexibility. It is suitable for solvent and water-borne system. The presence of surface modification further aids in viscosity reduction and pigment stability. Raven 3500 is designed for powder coatings, high end industrial and automotive mass market applications.

MONARCH® 280 distributed by DKSH is a high structure, general purpose, low color carbon black. As a fluffy product, it is a versatile and an easy to disperse carbon black that can be used to replace lamp blacks.

• It can be easily dispersed using a high-speed disperser for liquid coatings or a single screw extruder for powder coatings.
• It is also suitable for underbody/ underhood automotive coatings and general industrial coatings where high jetness is not required.
• It offers blue undertone, excellent hold out and excellent dispersability.
• It is suitable for a variety of tinting applications.
• It is particularly suitable for lithographic and gravure printing where a matte finish is required.
• MONARCH® 280 is available in Belgium, Luxembourg, Myanmar, and Netherlands.

NUOSPERSE® FA 196 by Elementis is an anionic, highly concentrated liquid pigment dispersing agent for carbon black and organic pigment. It is suitable for thermoplastic acrylic systems and as an auxiliary product to improve the action of universal tinting pastes in basic alkyd paints.

• It offers strong adsorption on a wide range of pigment surfaces, improves color development, gives good and fast dispersion, reduces rub-up and color float, improves compatibility of universal colorants.
• It enables the replacement of various more specific dispersants with just one product.
• NUOSPERSE® FA 196 is used for organic solvent-borne paint and ink systems including oxidatively drying systems and thermoplastic systems.
• It has a shelf life of 3 years from the date of manufacture.
• The recommended dosage level is 0.2-0.4% calculated on the total quantity of alkyd paint.

MONARCH® 1100 by DKSH is a small particle size specialty carbon black. It offers strong color performance. It provides excellent jetness and UV absorption for good exterior durability. It is also available in a less dusty pellet grade.

• It is designed for automotive-, industrial liquid-, architecture-, and powder coatings.
• MONARCH® 1100 is available in Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Myanmar.

Raven 2500 Ultra by Birla Carbon is carbon black for use in industrial and powder coatings, inkjet ink. Suitable for applications where high jetness is required. Raven 2500 Ultra provides greater uniformity, increased compatibility, improved dispersion, better processing, longer screen life, enhanced color development, and reduced scrap.

PowCarbon® 2419G distributed by DKSH is a general-purpose quality carbon black. It is suitable for paints and inks. PowCarbon® 2419G is available in Europe.

PowCarbon® 2410G distributed by DKSH is carbon black. It offers a general-purpose quality. PowCarbon® 2410G is used in paints and inks. It is available in Europe.

ADDITOL® XL 6521 by allnex is a high molecular wetting and dispersing agent with cationic character for carbon black and organic pigments. It is suitable for solvent-borne, solvent-free and high solid systems such as high-quality car refinish, industrial lacquers, printing inks and pigment pastes. It reduces dispersing time, enhances gloss & leveling, prevents reflocculation of pigment particles and reduces viscosity of pigment pastes. It is suitable for radiation curing systems. The recommended dosage level of ADDITOL® XL 6521 is 10-50% on organic pigments and 50-80% on carbon black. The shelf life of this product is 730 days.
