Anti-gelling Agents

Based on 13 products - Last update on the Jun 26, 2025

Anti-gelling agents appear as clear to slightly yellowish liquids. These additives work by disrupting gel formation, ensuring prolonged storage stability, and smooth application. They are used in solventborne paints, industrial coatings, and moisture-sensitive formulations.

A key trend in anti-gelling technology is the push toward multi-functional additives. Sub-types include amine-based stabilizers for solventborne systems and organic-based inhibitors for moisture-sensitive formulations. Regulatory aspects may influence the selection of anti-gelling agents in low-VOC or REACH-compliant coatings.

FX 4

by Eagle Specialty Products

FX 4 by Eagle Specialty Products is a viscosity stabilizer, anti-gelling agent, pigment wetting and dispersing additive. It prevents viscosity increase during manufacture and storage. It stabilizes pigment/vehicle systems that tend to cure or gel over time.

It is suitable for solvent-based applications.

It is used to stabilize pigments such as carbon blacks, magnetic iron oxides, nano-sized particles, and other high surface area inorganic and organic pigments.

It is formulated to be highly effective at low levels without adversely effecting inter-coat adhesion.

FX 4 eliminates viscosity build-up and gelling caused by premature polymerization or changes in vehicle absorption, especially in systems with driers or high metal content catalysts.

Additionally, it effectively wets dispersions that are difficult to grind.

Recommended dosage level is 1-2% based upon mill base weight and 0.5 to 1.0% based upon total formula weight.

BYKANOL® -N

by BYK

BYKANOL® -N by BYK acts as an anti-gelling agent and a viscosity stabilizer for solvent-borne paint systems. Solution of an alkylolammonium salt of acidic phosphoric acid esters and ketoxime. Prevents thickening caused by acidic binders used in combination with basic pigments. BYKANOL® -N also prevents viscosity increase and gelling (upon) storage of air drying and baking enamels. Used in solvent-borne industrial, protective and architectural coatings. Its recommended dosage level is 1-7 %.

WorléeAdd® 411 N

by Worlée

WorléeAdd® 411 N by Worlée is a special viscosity stabilizer and anti-gelling agent. Used for solvent based air drying and stoving paints. WorléeAdd® 411 N offers good pigment wetting properties.
