Nouryon launches microspheres for interior decorative paints at ECS 2025
Last update on Mar 25, 2025
Nouryon announces the launch of microspheres at the 2025 European Coatings Show in Nuremberg, Germany. This innovative product advances microsphere technology for interior decorative paints, offering customers a significant reduction in paint weight compared to traditional fillers without compromising performance properties.
Cost savings with reduced formulation density
Expancel® XS200 microspheres are a high-performance product in Nouryon's performance materials segment, ideal for thin-layer paint applications. The particle size is significantly smaller than the paint layer thickness, preserving essential properties including smooth surfaces, high durability, and cleanability.
"With our new, innovative Expancel® XS200 microspheres, we are the first to provide the global interior paint industry with a microsphere solution," said Sylvia Winkel Pettersson, vice president of Engineered Polymers at Nouryon. "With this product, customers can reduce density in paint formulations, resulting in paint products with a lower weight per can in addition to cost savings."
The introduction of Expancel® XS200 highlights Nouryon's commitment to innovation. By offering cutting-edge solutions that boost performance and efficiency as well as reduce environmental impact, Nouryon strengthens its leadership in the specialty chemicals industry and furthers its strategic emphasis on sustainable growth.
Expancel® microspheres are already used in various traditional coating applications, including cool roof coatings, where their high solar reflectance helps decrease roof temperatures and reduce the need for air conditioning. Nouryon is a manufacturer of expandable microspheres. These microspheres are manufactured in Sweden and the US, with local supply capabilities in China and Brazil.
