IMCD expands technical hub in Southeast Asia for coatings & construction
Last update on Jan 15, 2026
IMCD Group (IMCD), a distributor and formulator of specialty chemicals and ingredients, has opened a new construction laboratory in Indonesia, thus building a full technical center of expertise for coatings and construction in Southeast Asia.
Single center on formulation development, testing and technical problem-solving
The new laboratory brings construction expertise together with IMCD’s established coatings laboratory, creating a single hub where its technical and commercial experts, customers and principals can collaborate more closely on formulation development, testing and technical problem-solving.
IMCD has operated a coatings laboratory in Jakarta since 2018, supporting coatings, paints and construction producers with technical advice, formulation development and laboratory services. In 2024, the site was fully refurbished to strengthen collaboration with partners and further advance formulation innovation. The addition of the construction laboratory builds directly on this investment.
The combined coatings & construction laboratory in Jakarta focuses on understanding and serving specific regional needs, troubleshooting and formulation optimization, accelerating product development and supporting training initiatives that help customers drive innovation.
In coatings, this includes decorative paints, industrial metal coatings, wood, plastic and automotive coatings. In construction, the focus spans dry mix mortars, flooring resins and waterproofing systems, concrete blocks, bricks and masonry, as well as joint fillers, sealants and ready-to-use renders.
Key regional hub for technical expertise and co-creation
The opening of the construction laboratory builds on a series of recent investments by IMCD in Indonesia, including the enhanced food & nutrition laboratory announced in January 2025, the expansion of the pharmaceuticals technical center in November 2024 and the launch of the global microbiology laboratory in October 2024. Together, these developments reinforce Indonesia’s role as a key regional hub for technical expertise and co-creation.
“With both the coatings and construction laboratories and experts working side by side, we can support our partners in a more connected and effective way. It means faster development, stronger troubleshooting and solutions that are designed around the realities of the regional market,” said Pimsiraya Vichaidit, director, Coatings & Construction, Asia-Pacific, at IMCD.
“This milestone reflects the commitment and teamwork of our local and regional teams, working closely with our partners. It is about creating practical, high-quality and sustainable solutions that help our customers move faster and help our customers advance faster in their product developments,” said Naihong Yang, technical director, Coatings & Construction, Asia-Pacific, at IMCD.
