ECHA launches new platform for REACH and biocides risk assessments

Last update on Jun 11, 2026

The European Chemicals Agency’s (ECHA) new Chesar Platform helps companies and authorities carry out and report chemical risk assessments under the REACH and Biocidal Products regulations. The tool is now available in ECHA Cloud Services.

ECHA has released the first version of its new Chesar Platform, an application for conducting and reporting chemical risk assessments. The platform supports both REACH and biocides users and will gradually replace the current Chesar tool, EUSES 2.2.0, and ECHA’s Excel-based calculation tools for biocides.

Providing structured workflow for chemical risk assessment

The platform brings together the current Chesar and EUSES tools in a single, modern environment for chemical risk assessment. It provides a structured workflow for chemical risk assessment. It embeds exposure estimation tools, supports harmonised reporting and allows users to update assessments more easily, with calculations refreshed and reports regenerated automatically. These benefits are further enhanced when substance information is synchronised with IUCLID.

For REACH users, it supports chemical safety assessments and the generation of chemical safety reports as well as exposure scenarios for safety data sheets. For biocides users, it supports environmental exposure and risk assessments of individual substances and the generation of the relevant sections of the Risk Assessment Report/Competent Authority Report for active substances.

The platform also brings together REACH and biocides assessment approaches and includes updated exposure assessment models. The latest scientific updates are available only in Chesar Platform. Users are encouraged to start using Chesar Platform and to consult the release notes, user manual and migration guidance available on the Chesar Platform website.

The previous Chesar 3 tool will continue to be supported for around one more year to allow users to familiarize themselves with the new platform and transfer their assessments.

More information on the platform’s main functionalities and how to get started is available in an ECHA webinar on 2 June 2026. The first version is available through ECHA Cloud Services.
