Dow earns ISCC+ certification for its isocyanates manufacturing facility in Texas
Last update on Nov 13, 2025
Dow announces that its isocyanates manufacturing facility in Freeport, Texas has earned International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certification. This certification reinforces Dow’s ongoing commitment to advancing more sustainable production and product offerings to customers in the North America region with verified supply chain transparency.
Carbon footprint reduction with bio-circular technology
Dow’s new certification makes all isocyanate products produced at the Freeport facility available with bio-based material from Dow’s Ecolibrium™ portfolio through mass balance. This is made possible by using alternative feedstocks based on bio-circular materials at the beginning of the integrated manufacturing process. In turn, customers will see zero impact on product quality while achieving material with increased sustainability benefits and reduced carbon footprint.
“Achieving ISCC PLUS certification at our Freeport MDI Complex marks a significant milestone for Dow. It validates our commitment to credible sustainability practices and strengthens supply chain traceability, advancing our journey to deliver more sustainable products to our customers,” said Laurie B. Thibodeaux, senior unit operational excellence leader.
With this certification, the customers can confidently select materials that support their own sustainability goals and meet the evolving requirements of construction, consumer, and automotive industries.
Advancing MDI line in North America
Applying innovative technologies, more sustainable products will be available in North America and certified by ISCC PLUS through mass balance featuring Ecolibrium™ bio-circular material:
- PAPI™ 580N REN - Polymeric MDI for polyiso insulation boards and insulated metal panels
- PAPI™ 23 REN - for furniture and mattress foams
- SPECFLEX™ NES 1540 REN - for automotive noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) solutions
- ISONATE™ 143L REN - Modified MDI for coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomer formulations
The recent certification of the Freeport MDI Complex provides the opportunity to expand their offering over time as other alternative feedstocks become available in the North America region. For example, in Europe, Dow replaced fossil-based feedstocks with waste from the automotive industry to offer products with circular material attributed by mass balance.
This offering complements their polyol site certification achieved in 2024. ISCC is an international certification standard for fully traceable and environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable supply chains. This verification qualifies the tracking of alternative feedstocks through the mass balance approach.
