Coating ingredients for Paper & Board Coatings

EBECRYL® 436 by allnex is a reactive chlorinated polyester resin diluted 40% with the reactive diluent trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTA). It exhibits good lithographic behavior, pigment wetting properties and fast cure response in ultraviolet light (UV) curable coatings and inks. Cured films of EBECRYL® 436 display good adhesion to metals, plastics and paper. It is recommended for wet lithographic inks for paper, plastics and metals, overprint varnishes and post-formable inks.

EPOCROS™ WS-700 by Nippon Shokubai is a VOC-free adhesion promoter and a waterborne crosslinker based on acrylic, high oxazoline functionalized reactive copolymer. The new crosslinking technology enhances the reactivity between oxazoline groups and carboxy groups through a heating and mixing process involving EPOCROS™ WS and a carboxy group-containing emulsion with a specific neutralization rate.

• It offers lower curing temperature, excellent storage stability, no peeling and long pot life for one packaging.
• It provides film properties, low toxicity, fast drying and improved water- & heat resistance.
• EPOCROS™ WS-700 allows crosslinking reaction at low temperature (80-120°C) and without any by-product.
• It exhibits high reactivity and performance expression with even small addition.
• It offers excellent adhesion to polyethylene terephthalate (PET), oriented polypropylene (OPP) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
• Recommended for coatings (metals, films, paper, plastics, leather), primer (film, plastics, building materials, automobiles, PVB inks), paints, inks and pigment printing.
• It is registered with CSCA (Japan), TSCA (USA), REACH EU and IECSC (China) regulations.

Dispelair® CF 246 distributed by DKSH is a foam control agent and excellent defoamer for water-based coatings. It is effective over a wide range of pH values and temperatures, works efficiently at low concentrations, and helps improve process productivity.

• It is used in low gloss paints and paper coatings.
• A typical addition level is 0.1-0.5% in total depending on the severity of the foam problem.
• Dispelair® CF 246 has a shelf life of 1 year.
• It is available in Canada.

BENTONE® EW by Elementis acts as a rheological additive for water-borne paint systems. It is a highly beneficiated, easily dispersible powdered smectite clay. It provides thermostable aqueous phase viscosity control and thixotropy.

• It enhances texturing & stippling effects and improves workability/application.
• It is easy to use and does not impair throwing power in electrostatic systems.
• It offers fast water release, emulsion stabilization, and good stability in electrostatic coating baths.
• It prevents hard settlement of pigments/fillers, reduces syneresis and minimizes floating/flooding of pigments.
• BENTONE® EW is used in corrosion-inhibitive primers, latex paints, electrodeposition coatings, foundry paints, paper coatings and polishes & cleaners.
• Recommended usage level is 0.1-1%.
• It has a shelf life of 4 years.

EBECRYL® 600 by allnex is a low VOC diacrylate ester of bisphenol A epoxy resin. It provides light color and fast cure response.

• Films cured via exposure to ultraviolet light (UV) or electron beam (EB) possesses high surface hardness and gloss and excellent chemical resistance.
• It reduces energy consumption and exhibits low carbon foot print, good compatibility, low flammability and long potlife.
• It is a radiation curable, solvent- and tin free grade.
• EBECRYL® 600 is recommended for lithographic and screen inks, overprint varnishes and fast cure coatings.
• It is also used in coatings for paper, paperboard, wood, chipboard and rigid plastics.

Photomer® 6008 distributed by DKSH is a high viscosity, proprietary, aliphatic urethane acrylate oligomer. It is an excellent film former and it contributes towards unique performance properties typical of urethane acrylates in UV/EB curable formulations.

• It exhibits fast cure speed, low odor, skin irritancy and low volatility.
• It is recommended for use in UV/EB curable electronic coatings including solder masks, plate resists, conformal coatings, component coatings and insulating varnishes.
• It is an excellent base resin for screen printing inks where it contributes to consistent application viscosity, better pattern resolution and uniform coating thickness during cure.
• It forms tough, durable films with excellent high temperature stability, superior solvent resistance, high surface hardness and good flexibility when cured.
• It is suitable for lithographic and direct roll methods in addition to screen printing presses.
• It provide high gloss, reactivity, adhesion, yellowing resistance & high build and protection to printed surfaces.
• It is recommended for overprint coatings (varnishes) for paper/paperboard, plastics, metals and wood.
• The shelf life of Photomer® 6008 is 12 months.
• It is available in Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and France.

EBECRYL® 3701 by allnex is a VOC-, solvent- and tin-free, modified bisphenol A epoxy diacrylate. It imparts flexibility and toughness to ultraviolet light (UV) or electron beam (EB) cured coatings and inks, while maintaining fast cure response and superior chemical resistance that are typical of standard epoxy acrylates.

• It provides high gloss, and good abrasion and impact resistance.
• Formulated UV/EB curable products containing EBECRYL® 3701 may be applied via direct or reverse roll, offset gravure, metering rod, slot die, knife-over-roll, air knife, curtain, immersion and spin coating methods.
• It is recommended for clear coatings for paper, wood and rigid plastic, as well as lithographic, screen and flexographic ink vehicles.

UCECOAT® 7355 by allnex is a low/zero VOC, water-borne, solvent- & organo-tin-free radiation curable (UV/EB) polyurethane dispersion. It is tack-free before cure and after water evaporation. It is developed for high-end wooden furniture topcoats, both transparent and pigmented, but can also be used for other applications and substrates.

• The cured formulations offer very high reactivity in systems, very good hardness, high scratch and stain resistance.
• It provides optimized stability, good compatibility and is easy to formulate.
• UCECOAT® 7355 can be applied by spray and curtain coating.
• It is recommended for clear topcoat for wood furniture, coating on melamine paper foils and PVC floorings.
• It has a shelf life is 1 year.

EBECRYL® 4220 by allnex is an aliphatic urethane acrylate diluted 25% in tripropyleneglycol diacrylate (TPGDA). It produces tough coatings that resist yellowing. EBECRYL® 4220 is designed for use in the formulation of UV/EB energy curable coatings for application by roller coating, spraying and curtain coating on wood, cork, furniture, paper, parquet, plastics and film.

Borchi® Burst DFM 100 by Borchers (Milliken) is a foam control agent for water-based coating. It is successful at low concentrations and shows effectiveness over a wide range of pH values. It performs well over a wide range of temperatures and helps in process productivity.

• It is an excellent defoamer, suitable for wide range of aqueous systems, low to high PVC systems, low gloss paints, paper coatings and plasters.
• Recommended dosage level is 0.1-0.5% in total depending on the severity of the foam problem.
• Borchi® Burst DFM 100 has a shelf life of 12 months.
