Coating ingredients for Coil Coatings

Bentone® 38 by Elementis is a highly efficient rheological modifier designed for use in low to intermediate polarity organic systems. It is an organic derivative of a hectorite clay.

• It increases viscosity, controls sagging on vertical surfaces, and penetration on porous substrates.
• It improves flow and leveling, prevents pigment settling during storage and syneresis in thixotropic systems.
• It is suitable for aerosol paints, anti-corrosive paints, automotive finishes and primers, coil coating systems, industrial paints, trichloroethylene dip coatings, and wood stains.
• It is used in interior and exterior house paints.
• Recommended dosage level is 0.2-0.5% for house and industrial paints.
• Bentone® 38 has a shelf life of 4 years.

ETERKYD 4901-B-72 distributed by DKSH is an adhesion promoter for industrial coatings. It is used mainly in baking paints and primers.

• It is formulated to meet air pollution regulations.
• It imparts excellent balance of hardness and flexibility.
• It produces high-gloss films with excellent color and color retention.
• ETERKYD 4901-B-72 is recommended for coil coatings, general industrial gloss bake enamels for spray, dip, or flow.
• It is suitable for high-solids, solvent-thinned coil coatings, can coatings and waterborne one-coat systems.

SHIELDEX® C 303 distributed by DKSH is an easily dispersible, non-toxic, high performance anti-corrosion pigment of relatively low particle size. It is a calcium ion-exchanged, synthetic amorphous silica. It is used in coil coating primers, reactive primer systems and powder coatings.

• SHIELDEX® C 303 has a shelf life of 12 months.
• It is available in Europe.

Techpolymer™ EFC-208B by Sekisui Kasei can be used as a matting agent. Offers soft and smooth texture on coating surface. It is a crosslinked acrylic copolymer grade. It contains 50% biomass content and contributes in lowering the environmental loads. Its mean particle diameter is between 6.0-10.0 µm. Techpolymer™ EFC-208B is composed of polymer particles and can maintain the major properties as other Techpolymer™ lineup.

SYLOID® MX 307 distributed by DKSH is a synthetic amorphous silica. It is an organically treated high porosity silica matting agent of medium particle size. It provides excellent surface appearance combined with high film clarity.

• It exhibits high matting efficiency, outstanding suspension behavior and easy incorporation & dispersion properties.
• It is used in furniture-, wood-, coil-, wood protective-, general industrial- coatings and decorative & trade sale paints.
• It has a shelf life of 12 months.
• SYLOID® MX 307 is available in Europe.

SYLOID® C 809 distributed by DKSH is a high porosity, synthetic amorphous silica-based matting agent of medium particle size. It exhibits high matting effect, favorable gloss/ sheen ratio, outstanding incorporation and dispersion behavior and excellent overgrind resistance.

• It is suitable for use in coil coatings, general industrial coatings and decorative & trade sales paints.
• SYLOID® C 809 has a shelf life of 12 months.
• It is available in Europe.

Bentone® 34 by Elementis acts as a rheological additive designed for low to intermediate polarity organic systems. It is an organic derivative of a bentonite clay. It prevents pigment settling during storage and syneresis in thixotropic systems.

• It improves flow and leveling and controls sagging on vertical surfaces and penetration on porous substrates.
• It increases viscosity and provides thixotropy.
• It is used for anti-corrosive paints, automotive finishes, coil coating systems, dip coatings and industrial finishes.
• Also used in interior and exterior house paints including do-it-yourself paints, paint stripper pastes, printing inks, refinishes for household appliances and road marking paints.
• Recommended dosage level is 0.2-0.5% for house and industrial paints, 0.5-1% for primer and 0.2-0.3 for aqueous systems.
• Bentone® 34 has a shelf life of 4 years.

FERROXIDE® 226M distributed by DKSH is a dark blue-shade precipitated red iron oxide pigment. It is reliable, have consistent quality and stable under exposure to sunlight/UV radiation. It offers alkali, chemical and weather resistance. It is recommended for coil, concrete and powder coatings as well as in inks. FERROXIDE® 226M is available in Europe.

HALOX® 680 by ICL is a VOC-free, non-flammable, smart release anticorrosive pigment which releases a heterocyclic organic corrosion inhibitor from an organic matrix that adsorbs on the metal surface and forms a protective film. It offers decreased cathodic delamination (undercutting) and improves cut edge protection.

• It is jet milled grade that provides increased intercoat coating adhesion and prevents osmotic blistering. It reduces cost by lowering zinc phosphate loading.
• It acts synergistically with other corrosion inhibitors such as zinc phosphate, Z-PLEX 111, SZP-391, HALOX® 430 and Zn-free phosphates.
• It can be formulated into solvent-based, high solid-, and powder coatings.
• It is suitable for solvent-based primers & DTM alkyds, acrylics, water-based epoxies and urethanes, high solids and 100% solids, semi-gloss paints and coil coatings.
• The dosage level of HALOX® 680 as a stand-alone corrosion inhibitor or as an adhesion promoter is 1-2% based on total formula weight (TFW).
• When used in synergy with standard zinc phosphate the loading level of the product is typically 0.5-4% on total formula weight (TFW).

SYLOID® C 805 distributed by DKSH is a high porosity, synthetic amorphous silica-based matting agent of fine particle size. It exhibits high matting effect, outstanding incorporation & dispersion behavior and excellent overgrind resistance.

• It is suitable for use in coil coatings, general industrial coatings, decorative & trade sales paints and pigmented wood coatings.
• SYLOID® C 805 has a shelf life of 12 months.
