#1. How would you like the market to perceive Macroocean GmbH?

Macroocean is an innovative and enterprising specialty chemical company with a focus on high molecular weight modified copolyester. Macroocean's special copolyester has given excellent properties to coatings, adhesives, flexible packaging, inks, electronic, automotive, and other products.

As one of the few companies in the world to produce and develop solid high molecular weight copolyesters, this company aims to provide better solutions for industry and contribute to society. Adhering to the principle of "people" and "science", they are committed to harnessing the power of "people" and "science" to continuously innovate in the fields of material science and life science, providing sustainable solutions for industry and improving customers' products, thereby creating value for customers.

#2. What makes Macroocean GmbH unique?

First and foremost, we are highly focused, with our attention solely on copolyester resins. We are not involved in other resins such as acrylics or epoxies. As a result, we have a deep understanding of our resins and, thanks to our rapid response to the market, a strong understanding of market applications.

This enables us to offer our customers comprehensive solutions based on copolyester resins, whether for coatings, heat-seals or adhesives. Our product applications are extremely diverse and include coatings, inks, adhesives, films, functional coatings, and bio-based materials. We have a research and development department with rapid response capabilities.

#3. What inspired the development of your product portfolio?

First, actual customer needs, such as the BPA-free issue currently facing the can coating industry. Customers express their requirements, we conduct research and development, make improvements, iterate, test with customers, and repeat this process until the product is mature and ready for launch. For example, the can coating resin product we recently launched was developed based on customers' actual application and test conditions. We offer different products tailored to different application scenarios. We can also flexibly adapt our resins to customers' formulation systems.

Secondly, our synthesis department adjusts or improves products based on its own understanding, or conducts various combination experiments based on its understanding of raw materials. For example, some of our high molecular weight resins with low glass transition temperature (Tg) are very distinctive. They provide excellent adhesion to metal or plastic surfaces while offering various performance characteristics such as excellent moisture resistance or weatherability.

Our key differentiator is that we offer not just a 'product' but, more importantly, a complete solution. We focus on the real problems our customers face when using materials, from performance improvement to cost optimization and environmental compliance. Our R&D team not only customizes materials for our customers, but also provides them with technical support and process optimization advice, and this all-round strength is our competitive advantage.

#4. How does Macroocean balance the need for environmental protection and performance in its product development in response to the growing concern for environmental protection in the coatings industry?

We believe that environmental protection and performance are not mutually exclusive, but can be reconciled through innovation. In developing our products, we have always given equal importance to sustainability and high performance. We reduce our environmental impact through the use of renewable resources, improved and optimized allocation.

At the same time, our materials in the paint can still maintain excellent performance, such as corrosion resistance, weather resistance, good flow, etc. The high demand for coatings from both industry and consumers has been met. We not only comply with environmental regulations, but also actively promote the development of the industry in a greener and more sustainable direction.

#5. As the demand for low-carbon and sustainable materials increases in the coatings industry, how can Macroocean help its customers achieve these goals with new materials?

As environmental regulations become more stringent, customers are increasingly looking for low-carbon and sustainable materials. Macroocean has responded to this trend by introducing a range of low-carbon and environmentally friendly polyester resins and coating materials. These materials not only reduce carbon emissions, but also provide excellent coating performance while reducing energy consumption.

Our new materials use green chemistry and meet international sustainability certification standards. This helps our customers meet environmental regulations while increasing the marketability of their products. We also offer customized solutions to help customers select the best environmentally friendly materials for their specific applications.

#6. What are the highlights and trends of ECS 2025 that you think the industry should pay special attention to, and what kind of role does Macroocean play in it?

The European Coatings Show 2025 demonstrated the significant progress made by the coatings industry in terms of environmental protection, sustainability, and digital transformation. In particular, innovations in low-carbon and low-VOC products, as well as smart technology-based coatings production and application, are among the industry's current highlights and trends.

As the global demand for green coatings grows, companies need to accelerate their investment in green and innovative technologies. Macroocean played a role in promoting sustainability in the coatings industry at this exhibition by:

1. Showcasing high-performance green materials.
2. Sharing how we are helping our customers achieve their green growth and compliance goals through innovative technologies. 

We hope to use this platform not only to showcase our own technological strengths, but also to strengthen collaboration with other companies and research institutes in the industry to promote green growth in the coatings industry.

#7. How does Macroocean translate customer feedback into concrete product or technology improvements in its interactions with customers?

Customer feedback is always at the heart of our innovations and improvements. At trade shows and in our day-to-day business, we engage with our customers to understand their specific needs and pain points in coating applications. For example, feedback on the processability, environmental friendliness or economy of a material directly influences the direction of our subsequent research and development. 

Our R&D team works closely with our customers to ensure that we can make timely adjustments to product design and optimize performance. We also use regular technical exchanges, customer surveys and feedback mechanisms to ensure that our products are always in tune with the market and the real needs of our customers.

About Bin Xiao   Mr. Bin Xiao serves as Manager at Macroocean Materials, where he has contributed his expertise for seven years in advancing the company's specialty copolyester solutions. In his current role, he brings valuable insights into Macroocean’s journey, product innovation, and customer-driven approach.   Prior to joining Macroocean, he spent four years at Ventil System Technik GmbH as Technical Sales Manager and Partner. His career foundation was built during a three-year tenure as Pipeline Engineer at China National Chemical Corporation (ChemChina) from 2007 to 2010. Xiao holds a Master's degree from TU Dortmund University and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Science and Technology, China.
