BENATHIX® by Elementis is an organically modified smectite clay used as a rheological additive and thixotrope in unsaturated polyester laminating resins, gel coats, and polyester putties. Unlike conventional organoclays or fumed silica thixotropes, it does not require high-shear mixing equipment and is incorporated by mixing into styrene before resin addition, enabling simple low-shear processing without additional equipment investment.

It is an easy-to-disperse, cost-effective alternative to fumed silica and other organophilic clays. Provides minimal gel-time drift and consistent and stable viscosity. It allows increased filler loadings and rapid incorporation into styrene with low-shear mixers. Imparts excellent drainage control, even at low viscosity and thixotropic indices. Offers fast viscosity recovery rate after spray-out or roll-out and good clarity in cured resins. Improves settling & syneresis resistance and produces better glass-wetting properties. It has a shelf life of 4 years. Typical use levels of BENATHIX® range from 0.5-1.0 %wt.
