HS-830A distributed by Advent Silica acts as a binder and surface modifier. It is an alkaline, versatile, small particle sized, aqueous dispersion of colloidal silica. It is sodium stabilized, translucent liquid, slightly more viscous than water. It is produced through the hydrolysis of very fine silica powder, a technique that yields colloidal silica characterized by its lower level of impurities (metal ions), more uniform and even particle distribution. The small particle size allows it to easily penetrate the porous surfaces of concrete, thus increasing density and improving hardness as a densifier. The high surface area property makes it the best binder for increasing the mechanical durability of molded materials in investment casting (surface layer), refractory, and ceramic applications.
